Less Thinking. More Doing.
This is the next in our series of guest blogs written for WealthNation by Gen Y’s who share what it actually feels like to look into the future and contemplate the bumpy road to ‘responsible’ adulthood. Whatever the hell that’s supposed to mean.
These are real stories, written by real people, in their own words.
Less Thinking. More Doing. By Morgan Dalton.
Money. Can't live with the idea of it and can't live without it. Cliché? Yes, but true.
There's this quote by a Chinese philosopher, Lao Tzu, who said that "if you are depressed you are living in the past. If you are anxious you are living in the future. If you are at peace you are living in the present".
Now I consider myself to be a relatively carefree and stable individual, peaceful if you will, but when it comes to money I am both constantly thinking about how much I should have saved in the past and how much I should be saving for the future.
According to Lao, I should be both depressed and anxious but in that case, so should every other person I know. Clearly this couldn't be further from the truth. Don't get me wrong, everyone has their demons but I can guarantee that worrying about money is not one that makes you either of those things.
Money makes the world go round and that world get's greedier by the second, but for me at least, I take comfort in knowing that I'm not the only one who worries about it. It doesn't make me depressed and it doesn't make me anxious, it makes me human.
Here's another quote for you, if you haven't guessed already I love quotes, "rule your mind or it will rule you". So stop thinking about what you would have, could have, should have done and just do it. I mean nothing's going to change if you don't change it, is it?
